As a knitter myself, I was really excited to meet Nashville-based Han Starnes, knitwear designer of Josi Faye. Who doesn't love chunky knits? She sources fibers from the US and New Zealand (Han used to live there), spins it and then works the yarn by hand or on the loom into beautiful knitwear.
During our shoot I asked a few questions about Nashville.
Are you from Nashville?
If no, then where? Why'd you come here?
[I'm] from Louisville, Ky originally - came here most recently from New Zealand because of my husband's work. We love the city and also wanted to be closer to some friends and family.
What do you love about it?
The rent's cheap and the people are good. It's a neat place that's growing. There are some great restaurants, parks, and local events. And of course the Southern charm!
How would you define Nashville's style?
Southern Americana (but you still see ugly graphic tee's around). Most Nashvillians (as with most of the world) still dress / shop at big box or fast fashion retailers...but we're seeing that change and evolve where people are caring more about finding a unique piece that has a story - and was made locally or regionally.
