Sunset Tower Memories + Le Méridien Photo Contest

I returned from LA this morning on the red-eye.  Let me tell you, for my money, Virgin Ameria and JetBlue are the way to fly cross country now.  I don’t even care for United PS (economy) or even First Class on United.  The only thing is you can’t combine Virgin America’s Elevate with Atlantic’s Flying Club.  Too bad since lately I haven’t been to London as regularly and I need to keep my standing up!

It was a quick trip, fly out Saturday night, shoot Sunday and Monday, red-eye back.  LA was cold and rainy!  What?  Apparently, the weather was better in NYC!  Oh well.  We stayed at the Sunset Tower/Argyle, which is a beautiful art deco building that used to house celebrities - John Wayne had a cow on the balcony and Bugsy Siegel ran a casino out of his room.  The last time we stayed there was three years ago and it was in the midst of renovation.  Man, that was a crazy trip!  I think we were in LA for almost three weeks, went to too many strip clubs, nearly got thrown out of the hotel for partying to loudly in one of the assistant’s rooms, broke into one of the suites being renovated, partied more, one of our friends passed out and we left him there.  The next morning he woke to construction workers asking who the hell he was!  Ah, work hard, play hard.

Anyways, this photo contest popped up in my inbox - Le Méridien + The Lens.  It’s free to enter and looks as if you can enter daily until January 31, 2009.  There are already 818 images up.

Grand Prize gets:

  • A trip to NYC
  • Accomodations at Le Parker Méridien
  • Photo workshop with Ralph Gibson
  • Dinner with Ralph Gibson
  • An autographed Ralph Gibson book
  • Camera

I didn’t see much details as to what kind of camera though.
