Two deaths yesterday - Helen Levitt and my auntie Amanda (in the Philippines).

Obit for Levitt from the NY Times

Ms. Levitt was a major photographer of the 20th century who caught fleeting moments of surpassing lyricism, mystery and quiet drama on the streets of her native New York.

Wedding, Baptism and Too Much Family

Man, it’s been a long week. LA, running around NYC as tour guide on Thurs, then Friday was my cousin’s wedding in Jersey City. It was a beautiful wedding - Tiffany themed - with the reception at Brooklake Country Club in Florham Park, NJ. This and the Selby wedding tied for swankness. Thank god I wasn’t official photographer. I shot one wedding a couple years ago for a friend and never again. It’s too stressful and a lot more work. After shooting that wedding, I gained a lot of respect for wedding photographers.

After 24hr of wedding/reception, my other cousin decided to mention, oh, their new born has a baptism on Sunday. With the exception of my sister and Adam’s side, my family is Catholic. I’m not too religious - I wouldn’t even say lapsed Catholic, so I wasn’t exactly sure how long the actual service would last. Can’t be more than an hour. We walked in and there were 8, yup, 8 kids. What are they going to do, line the kids up and pour the water for efficiency? At least the priest had personality and made the whole event speedy so we could head back and barbeque!
