We're starting off the new year right with a great portrait!
I first met RYU RYU at a fashion showcase and loved the clothing line's simplicity and elegance. Rebekah Ryu designs while her husband handles the business end. Production is based in the NYC's Garment District.
RYU RYU is also focused on giving; they donate a portion of their profits to helping provide basic necessities to North Korean children in rural areas.
Clients and friends - thank you again for making this year a success! I've been lucky to help so many creative entrepreneurs visually communicate what makes their brands unique. From fashion designers to jewelers to artisanal foods, it's been an inspiring journey! Here are some of this year's highlights:
For one of my first jobs with bkstyled I photographed Sophia Matthias in her Williamsburg, Brooklyn studio. High ceilings, large windows that let in copious amounts of light, exposed brick - a dream workspace. How could you resist shooting backlit?

Over the summer I went to Nashville and met a some really talented designers for Nashville MADE. The Nappis preside over gorgeous Italian-crafted boots and accessories. Located at the end of Adams Street in an industrial area, the Peter Nappi showroom is a must visit with its open layout, music stage and welcoming vibe and is flooded with light.
A short drive from Peter Nappi is Otis James Nashville, maker of handcrafted ties in Marathon Village. His space consists of a cozy showroom connected to a large studio area. Another place flooded with light! Jealous.
Natasha Samoylenko is the talent behind Samoy Lenko, a women's line "...designed to accentuate the feminine form with detailed simplicity and ease of movement." She's also one of the partners behind DUMBO's Trunk boutique.
Greenpoint, Brooklyn's Ovenly bakery does savory and sweet just right. And their salted chocolate chip cookie (vegan too!) is pretty darn good. And I am cookie obsessed.

That's all for 2013. See you next year!
Portrait of Beckie Ryu coming soon!
Stationery designer Courtney Iverson of Poison Ivy Designs has a colorful workspace!
After two days of failed flight attempts (due to back weather in Newark and the ensuing backlog), I'm back in hot and steamy NYC. Today I shot a profile on Aaron Ruff of Digby and Iona jewelry. The rest of the week is all about working on the Nashville shoots. Stayed tuned!
